Bears have momentum going to Livingston

LITTLE CYPRESS — The Little Cypress-Mauriceville Bears will be looking to carry some momentum with them Friday when they open up District 20-4A play on the road with a long trek to face the Livingston Lions.

The Bears (1-2) are coming off a splendid 35-20 victory over the Coldspring Trojans last week. Coldspring entered that game ranked No. 6 in the state in Class 3A.

LC-M and the Lions (0-3) have faced a familiar foe this season in the form of the Silsbee Tigers. LC-M fell to the Tigers 40-37 while the Lions dropped a 43-32 decision to Silsbee last week.

LC-M running back Alex Sezer has darted for 333 yards on 60 carries this season. In the last two games, he’s rushed for 296 yards and has scored six touchdowns on 45 carries.

Bear junior quarterback Caleb Harley has completed 24-of-50 passes for 358 yards and two TDs. Casey Viator has been one of the top receivers in the area thus far, hauling in 16 receptions for 209 yards and a score.

The Lions returned just four starters on both sides of the ball from last year’s 7-3 unit.

Livingston lost to Woodlands College Park 39-21 in their opener and also fell to Dayton 28-13.

The Lions are led by quarterback Chevoski Collins, who rushed for 985 yards and passed for 535 last season. Tailback Marquis Thomas is also a running threat along with Damion Collins.

In the loss to Silsbee, Livingston outgained the Tigers 352-280 but five turnovers hurt their cause. Collins completed 7-of-16 passes for 155 yards and three TDs but was also picked off four times.

LC-M will play host to PN-G next week while the Lions visit Nederland.
