LIVINGSTON —
Brandon Humphrey doubled his pleasure, powering the Little Cypress-Mauriceville Bears to a 4-1 win over the Livingston Lions in the District 20-4A opener for both teams Tuesday.
Humphrey connected on two doubles to drive in three runs and also got the win on the hill for the Bears.
The Bears snagged three runs in the bottom of the first inning.
James Swan drew a walk and Shea Richards was nailed by a pitch. Humphrey made the Lions pay by ripping a two-run double to right-centerfield. Landon Procella made it 3-0 when he stroked a RBI single to leftfield that scored courtesy runner Taylor Landry.
The Bears added their fourth run in the third frame when Swan had a one-out double to left and scored off a Humphrey double down the leftfield line.
Humphrey worked four innings on the mound, allowing two hits while striking out four. Christian Wendt pitched 2 1/3 innings and struck out five Lions. Colby Roddy got the save, working 2/3 of an inning and striking out two.
The Bears return home for 20-4A play Friday when they play host to Port Neches-Groves at 4:30 p.m. at Don Gibbens Field.
In other 20-4A action Tuesday, Nederland downed Vidor 8-1 and Lumberton toppled PN-G 5-1.
BC shackles Buna
BUNA — Riding the arm of Hayden Guidry and timely hitting, the Bridge City Cardinals downed the Buna Cougars 5-1 in their District 21-3A opener at Cougar Field Tuesday.
Guidry went the distance on the hill for the Cardinals as he scattered just two hits while striking out 10 and walking none.
Keaton Langston went 2-for-3 at the plate and drove in a run. Chase Shugart was 2-for-4 and had a RBI. Bryce Sampere was 2-for-3 and scored.
Preston Pittman was 1-for-3 and scored. Nick Portacci was 1-for-2 with a RBI and Blaine McElduff went 1-for-2 and scored.
The Cardinals will play host to Woodville in non-district action Friday.
In other 21-3A action Tuesday, Silsbee toppled Orangefield 9-8 in a wild affair while Hamshire-Fannett downed West Orange-Stark 5-2.
In the Silsbee-OF game, Silsbee jumped out to a 7-0 lead in the top of the first. Orangefield scored two runs in the bottom of the inning and six more in the bottom of the second to take a 8-7 lead. The Tigers added two runs in the top of the fourth and held back the Bobcats. Silsbee had eight hits and four errors while Orangefield had seven hits and five errors.
Orangefield will travel to Hamshire-Fannett Friday and will host Hardin-Jefferson next Tuesday. WO-S will visit Hardin-Jefferson Friday and will host Beaumont Kelly in a non-district tilt Saturday.
