The Orangefield Lady Bobcats made a statement last Friday evening and now they need to make just one more to clinch the outright District 21-3A volleyball crown.
In a showdown with second-place Hardin-Jefferson at Bobcat Gym on Friday, the Lady Bobcats stayed perfect in 21-3A play by sweeping then talented Lady Hawks 27-25, 25-14, 25-17.
The Lady Bobcats (23-5, 9-0) remain perfect in 21-3A play and have won 27 of 28 games in district play.
Orangefield can clinch the outright 21-3A title Tuesday night when they welcome in last-place Buna.
Rylie Granger posted 30 assists, seven digs and four kills for the Lady Bobcats. Jennifer McManus notched 11 kills and 18 digs and “defender supreme” Kacey LeBlanc claimed 24 assists and two kills.
Taylor Benoit posted nine kills and two digs. Morgan Moss contributed eight kills while Marisa Bishop added seven.
Megan Burton collected 10 digs while Haleigh Turley had nine and Holly Granger added five.
Despite the loss, the Lady Hawks (7-2 in 21-3A play), have already clinched a playoff berth too.
The Silsbee Lady Tigers (6-4), who defeated the Bridge City Lady Cardinals (3-6) in four games Friday, need just one more win to clinch the third-place playoff spot.
The West Orange-Stark Lady Mustangs (3-6), along with Bridge City, must win their remaining matches and hope Silsbee drops its last two to have a shot at the playoffs.
The Lady Mustangs host the Lady Cardinals at Mustang Gym Tuesday.
In District 20-4A play Friday, the Little Cypress-Mauriceville Lady Bears dropped a tough 26-24, 15-25, 25-18, 25-18 decision to the Nederland Lady Bulldogs.
The loss put a damper on LC-M’s playoff hopes as they dropped to 4-7 in 20-4A play.
Haylea Hearn powered the Lady Bear attack with 15 kills.
Kayleigh Roy notched 11 kills. Sarah Woods had nine kills while Darby Strother had five and Malayzia Winbush added four.
Jade Piper led LC-M with 22 assists. Josie West had 20 assists and three aces while Woods also contributed five aces.
The Lady Bears will welcome Orange County rival Vidor Tuesday. Vidor (0-11) fell to Lumberton last Friday.
This Friday, matches will pit LC-M at Ozen; Bridge City at Hamshire-Fannett; Orangefield at WO-S; and Vidor at Central.
