LUMBERTON — Both Bridge City track teams dominated the Raider Relays at Lumberton High School.
The Lady Cardinals scored a whopping 194 points to easily outdistance second-place Little Cypress-Mauriceville (117) while the Cardinal boys racked up 145 points, 31 points better than second-place Jasper.
Lady Cardinal Alexus Henry was the “star of the show”, taking home gold in five events.
She set a new Bridge City record by winning the triple jump with a leap of 36 feet, 1 inch. She also won the high jump (5-4), the 200 meters (27.09 seconds) and also ran on the winning 400-meter relay team (51.67) and the 800-meter relay team (1:52.48).
The Lady Cardinals also received first-place finishes from Kati Thornton in the 100-meter hurdles (17.56 and Leslie Hendrickson in the 300-meter hurdles (50.36).
LC-M’s Zoe Casteel, a state qualifier in the 4A pole vault last year, leaped 11 feet to win the meet. The Lady Bears also received two first-place finishes from Brooke Manual in the 1,600 meters (5:59.05) and the 800 meters (2:35.16) while Lady Bear Alexis Sezer won the 100 meters in 13.22.
For the Bridge City boys, Malcolm Busby claimed the triple jump with a leap of 42-9 3/4. Brent LeBleu won the 3,200 meters in 11:03.78. Kane Vice took the 800 meters in 2:06.40. Tyler Western won both the 100 meters (11.49) and the 400 meters (52.89) while teammate Aubrey Harrington claimed the 1,600 meters in 5:03.25. The Cardinals won the 1,600-meter realy in 3:38.18.
LC-M’s Ethan Reed took the discus with a toss of 138-11 3/4. Bear teammate Tyler Howlett claimed the shot put with a mark of 48-2.
