CC Lions thump Alpha Omega in opener

HUNTSVILLE — Once the Community Christian Lions got their juices flowing, Huntsville Alpha Omega ran into a buzzsaw Saturday night in the opener for both football teams.

The Lions (1-0) and Alpha Omega (0-1) battled each other hard in the first half with Community scoring a late touchdown before intermission as the Lions took a 46-32 lead.

Community put on the afterburners in the second half, going on a 41-8 spurt to claim a 87-40 victory.

“Offensively, we rolled up some big numbers,” said Community coach Larry Spears. “It was a good matchup there early on. Alpha Omega had some big old boys and it took us a little bit to adjust to their size, especially on defense. We started to find our stride in that second quarter and really controlled the game the rest of the way.”

Running back R.C. Morris piled up 236 yards and four touchdowns on the ground while backfield mate C.J. Wagner had 178 yards and four TDs as well.

Quarterback Kayl Simon completed 4-of-8 passes for 160 yards and three TDs.

Dakota Alexander found the end zone twice for the Lions while Joshua LeBlanc and Lawrence Gallo also scored TDs.

Amron Akhtar, Jordan Humble, Brett Foster, Jacob Alexander and Joe Pulido all shined on the defensive side of the ball.

The Lions will hit the road again this Saturday when they visit Houston Emery Weiner.
