Cardinal Tournament highlights hoop action
BRIDGE CITY — The Bridge City Cardinals will play host to the Bridge City Booster Club Holiday Classic Dec. 28-Dec. 30 at Bridge City High School with six teams participating in the event.
The teams include the host Cardinals, West Orange-Stark, Vidor, Jasper, Port Neches-Groves and Legacy Christian Academy.
Games Dec. 28 include Bridge City vs. Legacy Christian (9:30 a.m.); WO-S vs. Jasper (11 a.m.); Vidor vs. PN-G (12:30 p.m.); Jasper vs. Bridge City (1 p.m.); and WO-S vs. Legacy Christian (3:30 p.m.).
Games Dec. 29 include Jasper vs. Vidor (9:30 a.m.); WO-S vs. PN-G (11 a.m.); Legacy Christian vs. Jasper (12:30 p.m.); Vidor vs. Bridge City (2 p.m.); and PN-G vs. Legacy Christian (3:30 p.m.)
Games Dec. 30 include Bridge City vs. WO-S (9:30 a.m.); Vidor vs. Legacy Christian (11 a.m.); Jasper vs. PN-G (12:30 p.m.); WO-S vs. Vidor (2 p.m.); and PN-G vs. Bridge City (3:30 p.m.)
All of the other local teams will be in tournament action as well.
Both the Little Cypress-Mauriceville boys and girls will compete in the Barbers Hill Tournament starting Monday. The Bear boys will start the tourney Monday with a 9 a.m. game against Baytown Lee.
The Orangefield boys will be at the East Chambers Tournament while the Lady Bobcats will travel to the Livingston Tournament. The Bobcat boys will play two games in Winnie Monday. They will face Beaumont Kelly at 9 a.m. and will take on New Waverly at 6 p.m.
The Bridge City Lady Cardinals will compete in the Beaumont Kelly Tournament while both the Deweyville boys and girls will travel to the Spurger Tournament. The Pirate boys will play the Jasper JV at 4:30 p.m. Monday.

There were 116 points scored at Battlin’ Bear Stadium.
It was a good thing the host Bears scored 63. -
Bobcats win battle of ground games
Though the score was 7-6 at half-time, it appeared the Buna Cougars had a slight edge in momentum going into the locker room.

Bridge City coach Cris Stump told a lot of reporters and fans this offseason Matt Menard would do fine as the new quarterback of the Cardinals.

Lady Bears fend off Lady Cats in 3
Getting pushed to the limit in each game, the Little Cypress-Mauriceville Lady Bears found an extra gear at the end of each one to fend off the Orangefield Lady Bobcats 25-18, 25-23, 25-23 in non-district volleyball action at The Bear Cave Tuesday night.

The Bridge City boys and the Huffman girls captured team titles at the Rick Miller Relays hosted by Bridge City at Claiborne Park over the weekend.

Erupting for 29 points in the first half, the Deweyville Pirates cruised to an easy 35-0 season-opening victory over the Sabine Pass Sharks at Pirate Stadium Friday night.
