NEDERLAND — Christmas came early for Vidor swimmers as the team had its best showing of the year on Saturday.
The Vidor Pirates swim team finished third out of the eight teams participating at the Golden Triangle Invitational Swim Meet, which was held Saturday at Central Middle School in Nederland.
Leading the way for the Vidor girls was freshman Kayla Lee, who earned 33 individual points for the team. Lee claimed second place in the Girls 500 Yard Freestyle with a time of 7:46.21 and added a third place finish in the Girls 200 Yard Individual Medley in 3:16.44.
Teammate Ashley Mann claimed second place in the Girls 200 Yard IM in 3:00.26, just ahead of Lee. Mann, a senior at Vidor High School and fourth year swimmer, earned 32 points for the team with her finish in the 200 Yard IM, and later with her fourth place finish in the Girls 100 Yard Freestyle in 1:09.72.
Lee and Mann added to the team total by helping the girls relay team to a second place finish, along with teammates Victoria Richardson and Jessica Cameron, in the Girls 400 Yard Freestyle Relay in 5:30.69. The same foursome added a fourth place finish earlier in the day in the Girls 200 Yard Medley Relay.
The boys team was led by freshman Damian Mann, who earned 33 points for the day with his second place finish in the Boys 200 Yard IM in 3:03.56 and his third place finish in the Boys 500 Yard Freestyle in 6:52.03.
Jarrett Cameron, a junior, added 20 points to the team total on Saturday, 15 of which came from his strong fourth place finish in the Boys 100 Yard Backstroke in a time of 1:07.92.
Mann and Cameron helped the boys two relay teams to add more points to the team total as well.
The relay team of Mann and Cameron, along with fellow swimmers Tim Brown and Damion Kirkland, placed fourth in the Boys 200 Yard Freestyle, while the relay team of Mann, Cameron, Brown and Caleb Riley placed second in the Boys 400 Yard Freestyle with a time of 4:41.39.
