DEWEYVILLE — Crafty point guard Demetrius Heard motored through the Deweyville defense for 38 points, lifting the West Orange-Stark Lady Mustangs to a 73-46 victory over the Lady Pirates in the championship game of the Deweyville Classic.
Heard also had seven rebounds, five assists and three steals in the WO-S (8-5) win. Mysheniqua Warnell had 12 points, eight rebounds and four blocked shots for the Lady Mustangs while Ryshaniqua Winbush contributed 10 points, nine rebounds and six steals.
Marley Moss tallied 19 points for the lLady Pirates, who fell to WO-S 48-46 at Mustang Gym in the season-opener for both teams.
The Lady Mustangs will not return to action again until Dec. 28. Meanwhile, the Lady Pirates (5-5, 1-0), who opened their District 23-2A campaign with a 59-49 win over Anahuac last week, will travel to Winnie to face East Chambers in 23-2A play.
In other action at the tourney Saturday, Hardin won third-place by downing Burkeville 81-26 and Buna won consolation by sinking High Island 49-20.
YMBL tourney
BEAUMONT — West Orange-Stark guard Kendrick Budwine drilled a three-point bomb with less than 12 seconds left, lifting the Mustangs to a dramatic 54-53 victory over O.P. Walker from New Orleans in the YMBL Tournament Saturday.
Darius Davis and JaKeenen Cotton led the Mustangs (7-3) with 10 points apiece while Budwine chimed in with nine.
The Mustangs will visit Port Neches-Groves Tuesday night.
