DEWEYVILLE — The Deweyville Lady Pirates and the West Orange-Stark Lady Mustangs will battle in the championship game of the Deweyville Classic today.
The Lady Pirates blistered Burkeville 64-34 in one semifinals whileWO-S slammed the Hardin Lady Hornets 54-27 in the semifinals of the Deweyville Classic Friday.
The championship is at 1:30 p.m. today. The two squads met in the season opener at WO-S with the Lady Mustangs pulling out a 48-46 victory.
DeMetrius Heard powered the WO-S (7-5) attack with 19 points, 12 rebounds, six steals and four assists.
Jazmyne MaGee chimed in with 13 points, six steals and four rebounds and Ryshaniqua Winbush had yet another double-double with 10 points, 13 rebounds and three steals.
Everyone scored in the Lady Pirates’ win over Burkeville.
Marley Moss led the way with 14 points. Amber Stanley chimed in with 13 and Heather Beudoin had 12. Skylar Webster added nine points to the cause and Kaycee Spears had eight.
In other action at the tourney Friday Buna downed Community Christian 48-8 and High Island toppled West Hardin 55-42.
In boys action Thursday, the host Pirates downed Chester 76-25.
Eric Avila led the Pirates with 22 points and had seven rebounds.
Brady Williams pumped in 13 points while Dillon Lambright chimed in with 12. Hunter Estes contributed nine points, five rebounds and five steals. Trey Craft notched six assists, six rebounds and five steals and Dan Smart yanked down nine rebounds.
Other scores included High Island 50, Deweyville JV 47; Buna 45, West Hardin 32 and Burkeville 74, Community Christian 35.
YMBL tourney
BEAUMONT — The West Orange-Stark Mustangs fell to the Beaumont Ozen Panthers 59-42 at the YMBL Tournament Thursday and lost to Killeen Shoemaker 49-34 on Friday.
Last week it was the Mustangs (6-3) who toppled the Panthers 71-59 to capture the Nederland Tournament.
The Panthers used a big 20-5 spurt in the second quarter to pull away from WO-S Thursday.
Post Darius Davis led the Mustangs with 13 points while Jarvis Jones pumped in nine. Joseph led Ozen with 18.
Jones led the Mustangs with 11 in the loss to Shoemaker.
H-J tourney
SOUR LAKE — The Vidor Pirates split a pair of games at the Hardin-Jefferson Tournament Friday.
The Pirates (6-6) fell to Bullard 59-40 in their first game and bounced back to defeat Krum 57-45 later in the day.
In the loss to Bullard, Jacob Williamson led the Pirates with 17 points and Josh Aldridge pumped in 11. In the win over Krum, Williamson filtered in 26 points and Gunner Hanson added nine.
The Pirates will play East Chambers in the tourney at 11 a.m. today.
The Little Cypress-Mauriceville Bears fell to Sabine 57-46 in the Hardin-Jefferson Tournament Friday.
Sabine jumped out to a 32-18 halftime edge to keep the Bears (8-3) at bay.
Cameron Johnson led the Bears with 15 points while Christian Harley had 12 as the two combined for five three-pointers.
The Bears played the host Hawks late Friday night.
