Lady Bears playoff set; BC, OF wait

The Little Cypress-Mauriceville Lady Bears, who wrapped up the District 20-4A volleyball titlefor the second straight year with a sweep of Beaumont Ozen Tuesday night, have their playoff encounter all set up.

The Lady Bears (30-7) will take on Goose Creek Memorial, the fourth-place squad out of District 19-4A, in the Class 4A Region III bidistrict playoffs Tuesday night at Lamar University’s McDonald Gym.

In District 21-3A, Hamshire-Fannett (8-2 in district) claimed the crown by virtue of their three-game win over Orangefield Tuesday night.

Orangefield (7-3) and Bridge City (7-3) tied for second place. Instead of the two Orange COunty schools squaring off for the outright second-place playoff spot, they opted to flip for playoff positioning.

Bridge City won the flip and will be the second-place squad while Orangefield will be the third seed.

In District 22-3A, Tarkington won the district title. Splendora and Huffman finished the regular season tied for second. Those two teams will play Friday in Liberty to determine the second and third-place seeding.

Bridge City will get the loser of that match in the Class 3A Region III bidistrict round of the playoffs while Orangefield will face the winner.

Other Class 4A playoff matches with dates and times yet to be determined are Port Neches-Groves, 20-4A runnerups, vs. 19-4A third-place unit Kingwood Park; Beaumont Ozen, third in 20-4A, vs. Barbers Hill, second in 19-4A; and Nederland, fourth in 20-4A, vs. Crosby, 19-4A champions.

LC-M and Bridge City will meet in a warmup game at 11 a.m. Saturday at Bridge City High School.
