ORANGE —
The first half of district play wrapped up for local volleyball squads last Friday.
So now is the time for teams to start jockeying for playoff positioning.
In District 21-3A, the Orangefield Lady Bobcats have a stronghold on first-place, rolling out to a 6-0 mark.
First-year head coach Meagan Adams’ Lady Bobcats have seldom been challenged. They’ve only lost one game, that one to Silsbee, much less a match in district action.
They made sure Silsbee wouldn’t get a game last Friday as the Lady Bobcats swept the Lady Tigers 25-20, 25-13, 25-15.
Jennifer McManus had 16 kills and 11 digs for Orangefield. Rylie Granger posted 29 assists and six kills while Kacey LeBlanc had eight digs and Taylor Benoit notched six kills.
The Bridge City Lady Cardinals (3-3) stayed in the thick of the race by sweeping Buna 3-0 on the road Friday. It was nice payback for the Lady Cardinals, who fell to Buna at home earlier in loop play.
The West Orange-Stark Lady Mustangs fell to 1-5 after getting edged out by Hamshire-Fannett 3-2 on Friday.
In 21-3A play tonight, the Lady Bobcats will host the Lady Cardinals in a Orange County showdown while the Lady Mustangs entertain Silsbee.
The Little Cypress-Mauriceville Lady Bears (3-4) look to stay in the hunt in the District 20-4A race when they play host to the Lumberton Lady Raiders tonight.
The Lady Bears have dropped two tough matches in a row to Beaumont Ozen and Livingston last week.
On Friday, the Lady Bears fell to Livingston 23-25, 21-25, 25-13, 25-14, 15-11 after winning the first two games.
Against Livingston Haylea Hearn had 11 kills, 3 aces, 14 digs. Demi Sheppard posted 4 aces and 23 digs, Kayleigh Roy had 8 kills, 1 block, 5 digs, Sarah Woods posted 9 kills, 3 blocks, 2 aces, and 5 digs.
Kelsey Crowe had 14 digs, Savannah Fisher had 2 digs, Jade Piper notched 20 assists, 5 digs, Maddie Posey claimed 8 kills, 5 digs, Josie West had 16 assists, 2 aces, 16 digs, Darby Strother contributed 3 kills, 1 block, 2 digs, and Malayzia Winbush had 1 kill, 3 blocks, 5 digs.
The Vidor Lady Pirates fell to 0-7 in loop play after falling to Nederland Friday. Vidor will visit first-place Port Neches-Groves tonight.
Volleyball action slated for this Friday includes PN-G at LC-M, Orangefield at Hamshire-Fannett, WO-S at Hardin-Jefferson and Vidor at Beaumont Ozen.
