WEST ORANGE —
West Orange-Stark will open defense of the District 21-3A crown Friday night, welcoming in the upstart Hamshire-Fannett Longhorns to Hooks Stadium.
The Mustangs (4-0) left opponents with little room to breathe in non-district action, posting two shutouts and holding teams to just 159.8 yards an outing.
The Longhorns (2-2) will check in with some momentum as well after they buried the Liberty Panthers 41-3 last week. H-F, which also defeated Anahuac and lost games to SPlendora and East Chambers, are led by quarterback Danta Smith.
Smith has completed 38-of-65 passes for 432 yards, three touchdowns and three interceptions. Jacob Smith has seen time at QB too, completing 10-of-14 passes for 196 yards, a TD, and a pick.
Travis Appling has 11 catches for 271 yards and a TD while Darius Riley has 15 grabs for 110 yards and two TDs.
Jordan Brown leads the H-F ground attack with 301 yards and two TDs off 66 carries while Smith has 106 yards and a TD on 17 carries.
Mustang quarterback Jimmy Salter threw for a season-high 219 yards and two TDs in the 17-7 win over Jasper last week. He’s completed 44-of-73 passes for 524 yards and four TDs with no picks thus far.
J’Marcus Rhodes leads the Mustangs with 15 catches for 290 yards and three TDs. Ar’Tevin McDonald leads the WO-S ground game with 136 yards and a TD on 30 totes.
WO-S will travel to Hardin-Jefferson next week while H-F welcomes Orangefield.
