ORANGEFIELD —
Two teams that have put up their share of points in their first four games will duke it out tonight when the Orangefield Bobcats host the Silsbee Tigers in the District 21-3A opener for both teams.
The Bobcats (1-3) gave head coach Josh Smalley his first career win as a head coach last week as they throttled Beaumont Kelly 47-19.
The Tigers (3-1) enter the game red-hot, scoring more than 40 points a game in their three-game win streak that includes a 43-32 victory against Livingston last week.
The Bobcats enter the game leading the district in rushing with their 1,241 yards.
Quarterback Eric Truncale has zipped for 367 yards and three touchdowns on 52 carries. Tailback Carl Wiley has 338 yards and three TDs on 62 totes. Tyron Como (32-207-1) and Dustin Verrett (21-178-1) have been productive on the ground too.
The Bobcats are averaging 325 yards a game and their defense is allowing 359.5.
Silsbee will check in with the district’s leading passer in the form of Patrick Reed. Reed has completed 45-of-89 passes for 859 yards and six TDs while tossing three picks.
Jordan Holmes has hauled in 13 catches for 328 yards and two TDs. Montana Garcia has six grabs for 137 yards and a score and Zayon Jackson has seven catches for 92 yards and a TD.
Reed is also the squad’s leading rusher with 387 yards and three TDs on just 46 carries. Tailback Floyd Spearman has 111 yards and a TD on 38 carries and has caught seven passes for 92 yards and a TD.
Orangefield will visit Hamshire-Fannett next week while the Tigers host Buna.
