ORANGEFIELD —
Both the Orangefield Bobcats and West Orange-Stark Mustangs wrapped up a great weekend as both hosted tournament action.
At the Bobcat Tournament, Orangefield went a perfect 4-0 while the Mustangs went 3-1 at the Certa-Bearden Tournament.
The Bobcats toppled East Chambers 10-5 in their tourney opener.
Blake Permenter started the game and Westin Crain notched the win as he pitched the final 4 1/3 innings, striking out five. Kurt Haggard went 3-for-3 at the plate with two runs batted in and scored three times.
In their second tilt, the Bobcats shut down Beaumont Kelly 6-1.
Ryan Gunstream pitched excellent, going all seven innings. He allowed just four hits and fanned four. Eric Truncale was 2-for-2 with the stick and scored twice.
The Bobcats defeated Kirbyville 8-5. Tryce Howard earned the mound win, scattering seven hits. Garrett Morrell led the Bobcats at the plate, going 2-for-4 with three RBI.
Orangefield wrapped up the tourney with a 9-6 victory over Port Arthur Memorial. Braxton Smith netted the win on the hill, allowing five hits while striking out 12 in six innings of work.
The Bobcats will compete in the Hardin Tournament Thursday through Saturday.
WO-S wrapped up a solid Certa-Bearden Tournament Saturday by taking down the Deweyville Pirates 9-2 at Ronnie Anderson Park.
Sophomore pitcher Grant Anderson pitched a terrific outing on the mound as he scattered four hits while striking out eight and walking two.
The Mustangs got off to a great start, scoring four runs in the bottom of the first inning.
Grant Lapoint led off with a single to center and went to second on a Payton Robertson sacrifice bunt. Aidan Anderson was then hit by a pitch and Lapoint came in to score on a wild pitch.
After Grant Anderson drew a walk, the Mustangs scored a run after a ball hit by Tavin Terrell was booted at second base.
After Kalen Garrett reached on a bunt single; Henry Forward brought in a run with a RBI groundout and Terrell eventually made it 4-0 by scoring on a wild pitch.
The Pirates put together two hits and scored a run in the top of the second due to a couple WO-S miscues in the field. WO-S got that run back when Lapoint drew a walk and scored off a RObertson RBI single to right.
The Pirates got to within 5-2 in the third when they scored on a wild pitch.
The Mustangs tallied three runs in the bottom half of the third.
Garrett walked and Forward was hit by a pitch. Jeremiah Klinhammer reached on a error as Garrett hustled in to score.
Chase Rutledge plated Forward with a slashing single to right and Robertson scored Klinhammer with a fielder’s choice RBI.
The Mustangs added a run in the fifth. Lapoint had a leadoff walk. Robertson followed with a bunt single and Aidan Anderson walked. Grant Anderson drove in Lapoint, who scored three times, with a RBI groundout.
The Mustangs will visit Vidor in non-district action Tuesday before participating in the Kirbyville Tournament Thursday through Saturday.
