CLEAR BROOK —
The Vidor Pirates will go into their bye week with a big smile on their faces.
The Pirates closed out their non-district schedule with a convincing 33-14 win over Class 5A Clear Brook on the Wolverines’ home turf Friday night.
Vidor (3-0) piled up 443 yards of total offense to dominate the Wolverines (0-3).
The Pirates amassed 344 yards on the ground on 60 carries. Vidor’s passing game was clicking as well as quarterback Montana Quirante was 5-for-5 for 99 yards. He also rushed for 146 yards and three touchdowns on 17 carries.
Vidor received a pair of touchdowns runs from fullback Justin Moore as well.
Defensively, the Pirates limited the Wolverines to 226 total yards.
Clear Brook finished with 162 yards on 27 carries on the ground and just completed 3-of-10 passes for 64 yards.
After a scoreless first quarter, the Pirates picked up 12 points in the second period. Quirante hit Bryce Cooper on a big 50-yard pass play and Quirante capped it with a 1-yard sneak for a score.
After connecting with Cooper, this time on a 40-yard pitch-and-catch, Moore capped another scoring series with a nine-yard touchdown jaunt as the Pirates led 12-0 at intermission.
Quirante expanded the margin to 19-0 with 0:25 left in the third when he shredded the Clear Brook secondary on a 50-yard touchdown gallop.
Clear Brook trimmed it to 19-7 but the Pirates marched down the field again and scored on a Quirante 1-yard run.
Moore made it 33-7 when he bolted 38 yards for a score with 3:48 remaining.
The Pirates will look to continue their winning ways Sept. 28 when they host the Nederland Bulldogs in their 20-4A opener.
