BEAUMONT —
A youthful Bridge City Cardinal team will be seeking its first win of the campaign Friday as they travel to Beaumont to face the Kelly Bulldogs.
The Cardinals (0-2) fell to Vidor 45-7 last week at home while the Bulldogs (0-1) were off last week, still licking their wounds from a 60-21 loss at the hands of the West Sabine Tigers.
The Cardinals will look to get their offense going after averaging just 159 yards a game in their losses to Newton and Vidor.
Quarterback Daniel Faulk has completed 13-of-28 passes for 121 yards and two touchdowns.
Kruz Dearbonne leads the BC ground game with 99 yards on 23 carries while Ashton Hunter has 85 yards on 25 carries.
The Cardinals have faced two stout running games the past two weeks, allowing 713 yards on the ground. This week they will try to combat a solid Bulldog passing attack.
Against West Sabine, Kelly quarterback Will Darling completed 9-of-15 passes for 132 yards.
Darling’s favorite target was Thomas Falgout, who hauled in five receptions for 107 yards. Kelly only managed six yards on the ground against West Sabine with tailback Jahmaal Dumes getting six yards on five tough carries.
The Cardinals will jump into their open week next week while the Bulldogs hit the road to face the Orangefield Bobcats.
