BEAUMONT — Two weeks into the summer swim season, and several athletes are already hitting their stride.
The City of Orange Swim Team (COST) and Vidor Area Swim Team (VAST) competed in the second contest of the summer at the Beaumont ISD Natatorium on Saturday, June 16, against swimmers representing the Beaumont Country Club, Beaumont Area Swim Team and Spindletop Swimming. Many of the Orange County swimmers stood out from the rest of the competition.
COST swimmer Presley Alexander, 8, won three individual contests this past Saturday. She claimed victory in the butterfly with a time of 22.31 seconds, the backstroke in a time of 23.84 seconds, and she also won the girls 25 yard breaststroke in 27.42 seconds, more than 5.7 seconds ahead of the runner-up.
Jordan Alexander, 9, was the other multi-event winner for COST. He won the boys 25 yard freestyle in 15.93 seconds, and also won the boys 25 yard backstroke by a fingertip in 19.92 seconds.
COST swimmer Andrew Hoyland, 13, squeezed out a victory in the boys 50 yard freestyle with a time of 28.71 seconds, while teammate Connor Alexander, 13, narrowly won the boys 50 yard backstroke with a time of 39.11 seconds.
Carly Bessire, 14, of VAST also claimed victory in three individual races to lead Vidor area swimmers.
Bessire won the girls 100 yard individual medley with a time of 1:16.67, the girls 50 yard backstroke in 34.18 seconds, and the girls 100 yard freestyle in 1:06.55, more than 5.4 seconds ahead of the runner-up.
VAST’s Joel Schiesler, 12, scored victories in the boys 50 yard butterfly in 34.89 seconds and the boys 50 yard backstroke with a time of 35.76 seconds.
Other VAST swimmers claiming victories in individual contests included Hunter Heidleberg, 14, in the boys 50 yard butterfly in 32.27 seconds; Zoe Bahl, 12, in the girls 50 yard breaststroke in 40.62 seconds; and Tyler Broyles, 15, won the boys 100 yard freestyle in 1:10.16.
COST and VAST swimmers will compete again this Saturday, June 23.
