VIDOR —
Almost 160 varsity cross coutrny runners converged onto the Claiborne Park trails Saturday to compete in the Cardinal Cross Country Classic.
The Bridge City boys rolled to yet another title, holding off Tarkinton to claim the Class 3A Boys Division in a meet that certainly had its challenges of drizzling and muggy conditions.
The Cardinals finished with 47 points. Tarkington was second with 60 points followed by Silsbee (68), Hamshire-Fannett (85), Jasper (88), and Orangefield (143).
Jasper’s Simon Mijares won the individual title, covering the three-mile distance in 18 minutes, 33.57 seconds.
Brent LeBleu led the balanced Cardinals, finishing sixth with a time of 19:44.07. He was followed by teammates Aubrey Harrington (9th, 19:55.74), Graydon Glover (13th, 20:19.13), Jhett Simmons (14th, 20:20.69), Seth Hartman (18th, 21:05.93), Jordan Martin (21st, 21:24.62), and Chase Schwarznau (33rd, 22:23.76).
Jeremy Breaux led Orangefield. He finished 25th with a 21:40.68. He was followed by teammates Luke Johnson (36th, 22:45.45), Devin Allen (38th, 23:01.99), Tryce Howard (39th, 23:08.92), and Logan Dubose (44th, 25:02.16).
Deweyville’s Lanston Monceaux nabbed a solid fifth-place finish, running a 19:37.14. He was followed by teammates Dakota Pikus (10th, 19:56.85), and Troy Corder (15th, 20:27.25).
Daytonwon the Girls 4-3A team division with 33 points.
Tarkington’s Braeanna Jordan was the top individual finisher, covering the two-mile course in 13:10.36.
Kaitlyn Adams led Bridge City, finishing 13th with a 15:18.30. She was followed by teammates Hope Medina (25th, 15:58.64), Cassie O’Brian (28th, 16:13.24), Leslie Hendrickson (32nd, 16:39.67), Tori Richard (34th, 16:46.92), Jacey Walker (37th, 16:55.44), and Adriane Cude (49th, 18:25.45).
Emily Blanke led Orangefield as she placed 33rd with a 16:46.62. She was followed by teammates Kristen Blane (57th, 19:20.74) and Brook Basm (62nd, 22:32.46.
LC-M’s Emilee Collins was 59th with a time of 19:46.76.
In the boys 4A race Dayton’s Adam Christine took the 5-K course over, running it in 17 minutes, 13:15 seconds to take top individual honors and helped lead the Broncos to the team title.
Christie’s teammate Brandon Daniels was second with a 17:46.04 while Port Neches-Groves’ Trey Keyes took third with a 18:35.35.
Dayton claimed the overall team title with 37 points. Vidor took second with 41 points and Nederland was third with a 44.
Vinny Hale paced Little Cypress-Mauriceville, placing sixth with a 19:40.64. Teammate James Armstrong was 15th with a 20:33.04.
Paced by sophomore Jordan Welborn, the Lumberton Lady Raiders won the 4A Girls Division with 34 points.
Welborn, the defending District 20-4A champion in both the 1,600 and 3,200 meters, easily won her race, finsihing the 5K in 20:16.72, winning it by more than three minutes. Nederland’s Kinsey Miller was second with a 23:29.63 and Lumberton’s Macy Mitchell was third with a 23:47.82.
The Nederland girls were second with 37 points and PN-G was third with 51.
LC-M’s Jodee Chesson placed 14th overall with a 26:41.86.
