ORANGE —
The top three playoff positions in the girls District 20-4A race has already been settled but the fourth-place berth is still up for grabs.
The Beaumont Ozen Lady Panthers (11-0) remains in first with the Vidor Lady Pirates (9-2) in second and the Beaumont Central Lady Jaguars (8-3 in third).
Vidor can just about seal the second-place playoff spot if they defeat Central on the road Friday. The Lady Pirates (24-6) will look to bounce back following Friday’s tough 84-37 loss on the road at Ozen.
The fourth-place playoff berth will be tight to the wire.
The Little Cypress-Mauriceville Lady Bears (12-18, 4-7) are currently in a three-way tie with the Nederland Lady Bulldogs (4-7) and the Lumberton Lady Raiders (4-7) with three games remaining.
The Lady Bears, who downed the Port Neches-Groves Lady Indians 72-50 Friday, have Nederland at home tonight, go to Ozen Friday and will host Lumberton Feb. 5. Nederland goes to LC-M, and PN-G (1-10), and hosts Ozen while Lumberton goes to Vidor, hosts Livingston (3-8) and visits LC-M.
In 21-3A action, the Hardin-Jefferson Lady Hawks (9-0) and the Buna Lady Cougars (8-1) are solidly in the top two spots while the Orangefield Lady Bobcats (14-11, 6-4) and the Hamshire-Fannett Lady Longhorns (5-4) will be battling for the third-place playoff berth. The Lady Longhorns forced the issue Friday when they defeated the Lady Bobcats 56-49 in Orangefield.
Orangefield goes to Hardin-Jefferson tonight and will host the West Orange-Stark Lady Mustangs Friday to close out the regular season. Hamshire-Fannett still has Buna, Bridge City (3-6) and Silsbee (0-10).
In 21-3A games tonight Silsbee is at Bridge City and Buna plays Hamshire-Fannett. Friday’s games will pit WO-S (2-8) at Orangefield and Bridge City at H-J.
