LITTLE CYPRESS —
Little Cypress-Mauriceville CISD Athletic Director, Randy Crouch, has announced that Ricky Ryan, currently LCM CISD’s Secondary Math Specialist and math teacher, will lead the Lady Bears Basketball Team for the next school year.
Ryan, who just completed his thirty-second year as a professional educator, has a long successful career as a basketball coach as well as math teacher in Southeast Texas.
Coach Ryan has served stints teaching and coaching at Bridge City and West Orange-Stark high schools, he was a graduate assistant for the men’s basketball team at Lamar University, assistant coach for the women’s team at the University of Houston, head women’s coach at San Jacinto Junior College, and head coach at WOS from 1999 through 2005.
He taught math at Orangefield High School and Lamar State College - Orange, and directed teacher quality grants at LSC-O prior to joining the LCM CISD faculty in May 2007 as Secondary Math Specialist and continued to teach as well as work to improve mathematics instruction by working with curriculum, assessments, teachers, and students.
As a head coach he had successful teams that compiled 168 wins while losing only 95. According to Ryan, “I was fortunate enough to coach two district champions, two regional runner ups, one state semifinalist, and one state finalist. I was blessed to have several very talented and dedicated players while at WO-S; Tonya Dove, Jojuanna Rogers, and Pam Anderson, who all extended their basketball careers in college, and Travessa Gant who was both a high school and college All-America and played in the WNBA and overseas professionally.”
When discussing his decision to put Ryan in the head coach position, Coach Crouch said, “Ricky has a vast amount of experience as a teacher in both the classroom and on the basketball court. His maturity and class along with his teaching wisdom will carry great weight on and off the court, as it does in the classroom, and this will be a valuable asset to our girls’ basketball program. Mr. Ryan’s knowledge and desire to help young people will enhance LCM basketball on a daily basis and will greatly benefit our young women’s future walk on the “court” of life.”
According to Ryan, “The LCM community has always had a love for girls’ basketball. I plan to work hard to help the girls reach their potential and exceed their expectations. It will take everyone working together, players, coaches, parents, administration, and fans to us reach these goals.’”
