ORANGE —
The First Annual Mighty Mustangs Golf Tournament went well at Sunset Grove Country Club Monday.
Great scores were fired, there was plenty on hand to eat and the event raised a good amount of money for WO-S athletics with a silent auction and a live auction.
“This was the first one and it was a nice success,” said WO-S Athletic Director Cornel Thompson. “It gives us coaches a chance to get together with members of the community and have some fun.”
There were plenty of helmets being auctioned off at the event, including three WO-S helmets, plus a helmet each from Texas, Lousiana State, Oklahoma and Texas A&M.
There were also Lamar and WO-S coaching shirts being auctioned. There were two Southeast Texas All-Star Classic uniforms, two autographed footballs and a Andre Johnson jersey from the Houston Texans.
There was also a autographed poster and a Seattle Seahawks helmet signed by former WO-S standout Earl Thomas, who made the Pro Bowl at safety for the Seahawks last season.
The Mighty Mustangs Tournament is something that will be carried on for the long run.
“It’s a tradition that we wanted to start this year,” said Thompson. “A lot of other schools have nice fundraisers and we wanted to have a nice one of our own. We want to make it bigger and better each year.”
