ORANGE —
Now that all of the holiday dust has been settled and hoop teams have wrapped up tournaments, it’s time to start a new year as everybody dives into the heart of their respective district play.
In District 21-3A play, the West Orange-Stark Mustangs (13-8, 2-0) have gotten off to a splendid start, defeating Hardin-Jefferson 45-43 (22-2, 0-1) in their last 21-3A game before the holidays.
The Mustangs then went on to capture four straight games to win the Bayou Classic Tournament hosted by Bridge City and Orangefield.
WO-S is currently tied with Silsbee (14-7, 2-0) atop the 21-3A standings. Bridge City (10-9, 1-0) is currently a half game back after the Cardinals defeated Buna (12-8, 0-2) in their 21-3A opener. Orangefield (12-6, 1-1) is definitely in the mix after the Bobcats defeated Hamshire-Fannett (7-13, 0-2).
There are pivotal games this Friday when Bridge City travels to Silsbee, H-F welcomes in Buna, and Orangefield travels to Sour Lake to take on H-J. WO-S has a bye date Friday.

LC-M will be riding some momentum Friday when they host Nederland with the varsity starting around 6 p.m. The Bears just wrapped up a second-place finish in the Bayou Classic.

On the girls’ side of the ledger, the Hardin-Jefferson Lady Hawks are off to a 3-0 start in 21-3A play along with the Buna Lady Cougars as they are tied atop the standings.
The Orangefield Lady Bobcats are on their heels though, standing 11-8 overall and 3-1 in 21-3A play.
Both the Bridge City Lady Cardinals and Hamshire-Fannett Lady Longhorns stand at 1-2 in loop play while the West Orange-Stark Lady Mustangs are 1-3 and the Silsbee Lady Tigers are at 0-4.
