The Orange Leader
BRIDGE CITY —
Larry Ward Stadium will feature a nice pairing between two squads that have been in the playoffs year-in and year-out of late as the Bridge City Cardinals welcome in the Silsbee Tigers in District 21-3A play.
The Cardinals (2-3, 1-0) stepped out of district last week and fell to Jasper 21-7 while the Tigers pounced on Buna 44-10.
Silsbee enters the contest with the most prolific offense in 21-3A, averaging more than 360 yards a game.
Tiger quarterback Patrick Reed has been a one-man wrecking crew. He’s completed 49-of-101 passes for 957 yards and seven touchdowns with three interceptions. He leads the Tigers on the ground too, gobbling up 501 yards and five TDs on 54 carries. He did suffer a hip pointer in the win at Buna but backup quarterback Kendrick Scott stepped in and completed 7-of-10 passes for 191 yards and two TDs.
Jordan Holmes leads the Tigers with 17 catches for 454 yards and three TDs. Tailback Floyd Spearman has 163 yards and five TDs on 57 carries.
The Cardinals opened 21-3A play two weeks ago with a great come-frome-behind 28-24 victory on the road at Buna.
Tailback Ashton Hunter powers the BC arsenal with 612 yards and three TDs on 89 totes.
Quarterback Daniel Faulk has completed 31-of-78 passes for 351 yards and five TDs with just one pick.
Receiver Tanner Cervenka has five catches for 118 yards and two TDs.
Next week the Cardinals will venture to Hamshire-Fannett to face the Longhorns while the Tigers will have their bye week.
