ORANGEFIELD —
District 21-3A volleyball teams are realizing pretty quickly that the Orangefield Lady Bobcats are “the force” to be reckoned with.
The Lady Bobcats made it look rather easy Tuesday night, improving to 2-0 in 21-3A play with a convincing 25-20, 25-14, 25-17 victory over the Hamshire-Fannett Lady Longhorns at Bobcat Gym.
The Lady Bobcats defeated the Lady Longhorns on Saturday to win the 3A-and-Under Division of the YMBL Tournament and pretty much controlled Tuesday night’s match from start to finish.
Jennifer McManus was a thorn in H-F’s side throughout the night as she piled up a match-high 14 kills. Her service game was working as well. She finished with nine points and four aces.
Morgan Moss played a superb match at the net, finishing with 10 kills.
Libero Kacey LeBlanc had an excellent defensive night, digging tough balls throughout while finishing up with seven points and an ace.
Rylie Granger had a super night as well. She had excellent sets for McManus and Moss and also found time to serve up 10 points, an ace and six kills.
Haleigh Turley served up 10 points and two aces for the Lady Bobcats. Holly Granger had five points while Megan Burton contributed four. Marisa Bishop chimed in with four kills while Taylor Benoit and Morgan Worthy added three kills apiece.
Delani Crowder powered the H-F (0-2 in district) attack with nine kills while Julie Basye contributed six.
Ashlea Speight served up 11 points and an ace for the Lady Longhorns while Basye had four points and an ace.
The Lady Bobcats snared a 17-10 edge in Game One only to see the Lady Longhorns scratch back to take a 19-18 edge. However, the Lady Bobcats tallied seven of the next eight points behind Turley’s serving and McManus’ blistering shots.
The Lady Bobcats blew up Game One after leading 8-5 by scoring nine out of the next 10 points.
Orangefield scored seven of the first 10 points in Game Three to cruise to the victory.
The Lady Bobcats will visit Evadale for a non-district contest Friday before visiting Hardin-Jefferson in 21-3A play next Tuesday.
