GRID PREVIEW: WO-S at PN-G

There should be quite a rowdy crowd Friday night when the West Orange-Stark Mustangs head to The Reservation to take on the Port Neches-Groves Indians.

Both teams snagged wins in their openers. WO-S (1-0) recorded its 81st shutout in school history by blanking LC-M 18-0 while the Indians (1-0) held off a late surge on the road, defeating Silsbee 21-20.

The Mustang defense was stingy against the Bears, limiting them to 121 yards and seven first downs. LC-M rushed the ball 25 times for only 37 yards and the Mustangs held the Bear quarterbacks to just 7-of-21 for 84 yards and an interception.

On offense, the Mustangs picked up 333 yards, 239 on the ground and 94 in the air. Tailbacks Kane Tezeno and Ar’Tevin McDonald combined for 125 yards and two touchdowns on 19 carries. Quarterback Jimmy Salter completed 9-of-16 passes for 96 yards. Receiver J’Marcus Rhodes hauled in four receptions for 39 yards.

PN-G picked up the win at Silsbee despite being outgained 291-224. Quarterback A.J. Smith completed 17-of-33 passes for 168 yards and a touchdown. Receiver Tim Clopton hauled in seven receptions for 71 yards. PN-G only mustered 56 rushing yards on 30 carries.

The PN-G defense gave up 185 yards passing to the Tigers and allowded 106 yards rushing.
