The Little Cypress-Mauriceville Battlin’ Bears head to Silsbee Friday night to face the Tigers as both teams are looking to pick up their first win of the season after both had tough setbacks on opening night.
The Bears (0-1) look to regroup after dropping a 18-0 decision to West Orange-Stark while the Tigers (0-1) look to shake off a heart-breaking 21-20 loss at the hands of Port Neches-Groves.
The Bears will look to get an offensive attack going after totaling ust 121 yards in the loss to WO-S.
Quarterbacks Caleb Harley and Jake Sonnier combined to complete 7-of-21 passes for 84 yards in the loss. Tailback Alex Sezer was limited to 37 yards on 15 totes. Casey Viator had a nice night at receiver, hauling in six catches for 69 yards.
The Bear defense played well against WO-S. They did allow 333 yards but held firm several times deep in their own territory.
The Tigers actually outgained PN-G 291-224 in their loss. Silsbee got to within a point after a touchdown with 38 seconds left. The Tigers opted for the two-point conversion and failed as the Indians escaped with the win.
Silsbee quarterback Patrick Reed completed 12-of-32 passes for 139 yards and two touchdowns. Receiver Jordan Holmes had five catches for 93 yards. Tailback Floyd Spearman had 52 yards on 14 carries while Reed had 35 on 11 carries.
The Silsbee defense allowed PN-G 168 passing yards and limited the Indians to just 56 yards on the ground on 30 carries.
