ORANGE —
McInnis Construction, Inc. is to be paid the Final Retainage of $70,427.09 as approved during the 10 a.m. Monday, Special session of the Orange County Commissioners Court.
Retainage is a portion of the agreed upon contract price deliberately withheld until the work is substantially complete to assure that contractor or subcontractor will satisfy its obligations and complete a construction project.
The court also approved the paying of county bills for a total of $220,676.76 which includes the final retainage for McInnis Construction, Inc.
The court discussed the option of renewing the maintenance contract for the mail machine with Pitney Bowes or to lease a new machine.
The maintenance contract is for $3,0019.40 a year with ink and the meter costing $1,000 more. Leasing a new machine at $308 a month would cost the county $3,696 a year.
The representative from Pitney Bowes told the court the equipment they are currently using is an older model no longer manufactured by the company and signing the leasing contract would lock in the price for five years.
The cost of the maintenance contract has increased 7-10% each year.
County Judge Carl Thibodeaux asked when the new cost would go into effect.
The representative asked when did they want it to start.
“May,” Thibodeaux said, laughing. “Well you asked.”
The new agreement will be effective in January. The new equipment will be installed just before Christmas.
Assistant County Attorney Douglas Manning told the court the report of eminent domain authority for the comptroller of public accounts for the state of Texas was ready to be mailed. The report is required to be submitted due to new legislation passed by the state.
The court also approved the purchase of a Judge’s chair, an executive chair, and two club chairs for the County Court at Law 1 office for a total of $1,630. Judge Mandy White-Rogers made the request for new chairs as the furniture in the office was thirsty years old and has been in use since the judge prior to Judge Clark.
White-Rogers supplied her own desk for the office.
