Orange County Judge Carl Thibodeaux said each project for the Orange County Airport will need to be approved by Commissioners Court when Airport Supervisor Franklin Walters presented the court with proposed 2013 Routine Airport Maintenance (RAMP) Grant projects.
“The items on the list are what I would like to get done this year,” Walters said. “It is a wish list, in effect.”
Orange County Airport is a county-owned public-use airport located three miles southwest of the central business district of Orange.
The grant is for $100,000 and the county must match 50%. The cost to the county would be $50,000 if the full amount of the grant is used.
“The grant covers routine maintenance such as lights and hangars,” Walters said. “It does not cover mowing.”
Walters also said the airport is not locked into the projects requested.
The airport averages fifteen flights per day.
The projects already approved are:
• AWOS Maintenance $4,000 per year
• AWOS Nadin yearly fee
• Fuel Farm Tank inspection $10,000
All hoses need to be inspected, changed and calibrations performed on the pumps and nozzles. These must be certified and the airport did not have a current certified inspection.
The RAMP grant covered a portion of the costs, with the county being responsible for $7,500.
