ORANGE — The May general election looks to be an interesting one with a few races already on tap and more sure to follow.

The City of Orange will have all three incumbents facing challengers on May 11 as each race is being opposed. District 2 councilperson Cullin Smith will be opposed by Tommy Ferguson, while incumbent Annette Pernell will face Mary McKenna for the District 4 seat. Incumbent Bill Mello, who currently holds the Position 5 at-large seat, will be unopposed as of Wednesday after candidate Nancy Gilliam Byers withdrew her application for personal reasons.



Bridge City

The City of Bridge City looks to have an election this May as well.

Kevin Mott, Place 1 incumbent councilman, will seek re-election for a final term, but he will be face opposition from former Bridge City councilperson Lucy Fields, who has also tossed her name into race.

Place 3 councilman Robert Simons Jr. has also filed to seek re-election for another term. No people, including incumbent Richard Savoy, have yet to file for the Place 5 seat.



West Orange

Three positions are open for filing this election year in the City of West Orange.

As of Wednesday, only incumbent Mayor Roy McDonald has filed for a place on the ballot, while incumbent councilmen Mike Trahan and Charles Winter have yet to file. No new challengers have applied.



Pinehurst

After one week of filing, only incumbent councilman Dan Mohon has signed up for a place on the ballot and another term in office. Fellow councilmembers Dan Barclay and Matt Chandler have yet to file and no opposition has signed up at this time.



Vidor

In the City of Vidor, another big election year could be brewing if rumors prove true.

However, only one new candidates, Robert Viator Jr., has filed for a place on the ballot as he will seek election for the Ward 6 seat which is currently held by Trey Haney.

Haney has yet to file for re-election, nor have fellow incumbents Mayor Ken Crawford, Lynda Courtney, Ward 1; and Mallie Bickham, Ward 4.



Rose City

After one week of filing, no candidates or incumbents have filed an application for a place on the ballot in Rose City. This includes incumbent officials such as Mayor David Bush and councilmen Hernando Ramos and Chad Landry.



Pine Forest

Filing is usually slow and steady in the city of Pine Forest, but not this year. Through Wednesday, incumbents Joey Peno and Jason Dunwoody, mayor and Place 5 councilman, respectively, have officially announced they will seek re-election.

Resident Darrell E. Talcott has submitted his name for the May election for the Place 1 seat, which is currently held by John Davis. Davis has yet to file.



LC-M CISD

Four Orange County school districts will have Trustees with terms expiring this may, but only, thus far, looks to have an election on the horizon.

The Little Cypress-Mauriceville Consolidated Independent School District will have a race between two new candidates seeking the seat in Position 7, which is currently held by Jason Woods. Candidates Ron Borel and Blake Istre have filed for a place on the ballot. Woods has not yet filed.

Incumbent Rex Peveto, Position 6, has filed for re-election but is currently unopposed.



BCISD

All three incumbents - Rebbeca Rutledge, Place 3; Thad Hill, Place 4; and Jerry McInnis, Place 5 - have filed applications and will seek re-election to the BCISD Board of Trustees. They are currently unopposed.



WO-C CISD

Three at-large seats are open for filing on the West Orange-Cove CISD school board, but, as of Wednesday, no one has filed for a place on the ballot, including incumbents Harry Barclay, Ricky Jacobs and Hardy O’Neal.



Vidor ISD

The Vidor Independent School District will have three positions open for filing for the May election, and, so far, one new candidate has come forward as Dennis Hill will run for the Position 3 seat currently held by Sheila Sarver.

Sarver has yet to file for the May 11 election, nor have incumbents Mike Kilmer and Michael C. Quinn, Position 4 and Position 5, respectively.
