ORANGE —
Orange County Parks Department wants to take a preventive approach to the unimproved portions of the area parks.
Parks Director Donna Scales is requesting approval from the Commissioners Court on Monday for the Road and Bridge Department to cut down and remove 12 trees at Gould Park in Vidor, 60 trees at Claiborne West Park, and 1 tree at Bluebird Fish Camp in Orange.
The request is not included in the budget for the 2012/2013 fiscal year.
“The trees are located in unimproved areas of the park,” Scales said. “We have always removed dead trees in the improved areas of the parks.”
Scales said that a recent event where a tree limb fell on a walker in the Vidor area prompted her to evaluate the trees in the parks.
“We see dead tree limbs on the side of the road all the time,” Scales said. “The public should be aware that dead trees need to be removed to prevent injuries to others.”
Scales said the walker, age 73, is doing well.
Orange County Commissioners Court is 2 p.m. Monday at the Orange County Administration Building at 123 South 6th Street in Orange.
