PINEHURST —
Al Granger is the new owner of the former Pinehurst City Hall and Fire Department located at 3640 Mockingbird.
Granger won the bid at $64,500. The city was hoping for a minimum bid of $80,000.
Grady Johnson, former mayor of Pinehurst from 1984-1986, bid against Granger.
“The building has possibilities,” Johnson said. “Maybe a Daycare center or something for senior citizens.”
The city of Pinehurst opted to auction the buildings instead of renting them. At least one business had expressed an interest in leasing the former city hall.
“I was concerned when the bidding went from $80,000 to $60,000,” City Administrator Joe Parkhurst said.
The city moved to the new city hall located at 2467 Martin Luther King Jr. Drive in Pinehurst in November of 2011.
