PINEHURST —
The sale on the old city hall and fire station will be closed on Thursday leading to the need for remodeling on the new Fire Station.
City Administrator Joe Parkhurst told the Pinehurst City Council on Tuesday that the driveway would need some minor repairs and a new pad added to accommodate the weight of the fire engines.
A shower, kitchen area, another office and an area for a washing machine and dryer would be added.
Parkhurst also suggested installing two air conditioning units, one for each floor.
“A firefighter will not always be on the second floor, so why cool it if no one is there,” Parkhurst said. “I believe the extra cost now will save us money in the long run.”
The contract was awarded to David Huerta, a citizen of Pinehurst, for $44,715.
“Huerta said he would be ready to start construction within the week,” Parkhurst said. “It should take four to five weeks to complete.”
Police Chief Fred Hanauer III told the council COPS grant had been denied.
“The rules changed since applying for it,” Hanauer said. “We would no longer be able to afford the match.”
Hanauer also told the council an officer was involved in a wreck near 16th and Green on Monday while transporting a prisoner.
“The officer and prisoner are fine,” Hanauer said. “The other driver was arrested for drunk driving.”
Harry Vine, code enforcement officer gave a report of properties that had received complaints against for not being in compliance with city ordinances. All properties mentioned were in the process of becoming compliant.
“The new flood maps from FEMA will be in Bridge City March 15 and 16,” Vine said. “I will also be there to answer any questions.”
City Secretary, Debbie Cormier told the council it was time to start thinking about the election. January 30 will be the first day to file intent to run for the election.
There are three seats up for election: Dan Mohon, Mayor Pro Tem Dan Barclay, and Matthew Chandler. Chandler was appointed to finish the term for Bill Triggs who resigned in November 2012.
