WINNIE, Texas —
A country music legend could be making his final curtain call in Southeast Texas this Friday night.
George Jones will perform Friday, Nov. 23, at Nutty Jerry's Entertainment Complex in Winnie, Texas, as part of the two-day “Thank God for Texas Music Festival.” Tickets are $30-$60 each for Friday's concert, which also features Hayes Carll and Folk Family Revival.
Jones, 81, has faced several medical issues over the past year but appears to have emerged in fair health and eager to get back on the road. He announced this summer that “The Grand Tour,” which is scheduled to begin Feb. 2, 2013, in Tunica, Miss., will be his last.
“I love the road,” Jones said during an interview with Taste of Country.com. “I love the fans. I am just a singer and love to sing my songs. Until I’m done, I still don’t need no rockin’ chair. Just gimme’ that stage and I’ll have at it.”
Jones has recorded over 150 hit songs, both solo and duets, which includes 14 No. 1 singles such as “White Lightning,” “He Stopped Loving Her Today,” “The Door” and more.
The second day of the festival on Saturday features Jamey Johnson, Adam Hood and Damn Quails. Tickets are $35-$55. Visit www.nuttyjerrys.com for more information.
