A day of music, laughs, art and activities will benefit two worthwhile organizations this Saturday.
The OTI Festival will be held this Saturday at Tequila Rok, which is located on Crockett Street in downtown Beaumont. The event features two stages which will be full of great musical entertainment, side-splitting laughs and more. Tickets are $12 at the door, but, for those who bring two canned goods to be donated to the Southeast Texas Food Bank, you will receive a $2 discount.
Musical performances include a variety of local and regional artists, such as The Ramblin’ Boys, We Were Wolves, Six String Mafia, Jenny and the Reincarnations, Andrew Strange, Hello Chief, Eviscerate the Proletariat, DJ Elektrosaurus, We Are Wombat, The Ruxpins and more on two stages.
Bobby Parrott, singer and member of The Ramblin’ Boys, said OTI Fest is more than mere festival.
“We wanted to help out with the humane society from the get-go,” Parrott said. “The initial idea was to just be assisting the humane society, but we were sitting around and thought that if we had canned good donations, we would be able to help out another organization, such as the food bank. We wanted to make OTI for the community because to us ‘Wu Tang is for the kids, but OTI Fest is for everyone in the community.’”
This event is also more like a real festival than just in name. The OTI Fest will also have a cake walk, a hot dog eating contest, art, face painting, piñatas, a queso cook-off, magic by Cory Neyland and a kung fu movie marathon.
“We wanted a variety of music because James (Faust), Derek (Green), and I all have a pretty vast music collection that spans several different genres,” Parrott added. “We wanted to mix different genres because it hopefully will give people a chance to see some acts that they normally wouldn’t see. Some of the out of town bands just fell into our laps.
“Dead Rabbits and Days n Daze played with us (The Ramblin’ Boys) in Galveston a month ago and we fell in love,” he continued. “Bantam Foxes are friends with the We Are Wombat guys. We Were Wolves will always have a special place in our hearts. Cordial actually features ex-Sivan bassist Chris Badger. A lot of the locals on the bill are really good friends and artists that really inspire us. We also have some rappers, a DJ, and six comedians that we’re all really proud of. We’ve all been to several music festivals such as Fun fun Fun and Bonnaroo where they highlight comedians as well as musicians, so we decided to do the same for some very funny local people.”
Along with music, stand-up comedy is also part of the event and performers include Jack Neil, Joseph Fuller, Thomas Calvert, Mike Lowing and Kirby.
The doors open at 1:30 p.m. and the music starts at 2 p.m., Saturday.
Also, just announced, an OTI Fest Hangover BBQ Brunch After Party will be held from 1 p.m. - 6 p.m., Sunday, Nov. 18, featuring music from We Are Wombat, White Boy T, Soy, Glistener and Babybirds. Admission is free for those with a wristband from OTI Fest on Saturday.
