HOUSTON —
One of the most influential trio’s in rock music history is back in Houston this weekend.
Canadian rock outfit Rush returns to Houston for a concert Sunday night, Dec. 2, at the Toyota Center. The band is performing “an evening with” event, which means it’s Rush music all evening long. Tickets are $46 - $126 and can be purchased at www.houstontoyotacenter.com.
Rush is touring in support of its June release, the concept album “Clockwork Angels,” the band’s first album in five years and its 19th overall. The record debuted at No. 2 on the Billboard Top 200 albums chart in the U.S. and features the singles “Caravan,” “Headlong Flight” and “The Wreckers.”
The band formed in 1968 in Toronto, Canada and released its debut, self-titled album in 1974. Rush, which is comprised of Geddy Lee, bass; Alex Lifeson, guitar; and Neil Peart, drums, is best known for its multitude of songs such as “Fly By Night,” “Working Man,” “Tom Sawyer,” “The Temples of Syrinx,” “Closer to the Heart,” “The Big Money,” “Subdivisions,” and many others.
This tour promises to be a treat for die-hard Rush fans, as the group will be performing songs from throughout its whole career. In a June 2012 interview with Rolling Stone magazine, drummer Neil Peart said the band was eagerly scouring its catalog in advance of the tour.
“We always pick a half-dozen songs more than we end up playing,” Peart said. “The songs we pick are the songs we want to play, and this time we picked whole bunch of older ones that we want to bring back and present in a different way.”
Rush was recently inducted on the RockWalk on Nov. 20 at the historic Hollywood location on Sunset Boulevard in Los Angeles. The bandmembers handprints were immortalized in cement and now on view for the millions of music fans which visit Hollywood every year and can be seen alongside other renowned musicians such as Jimmy Page, Eric Clapton, Iron Maiden, Queen and more.
