Entertainment week of July 18-24

Another fabulous weekend of live music and fun events for the whole family are in store, so make plans and be safe.

Rodeo

Area rodeo fans get your boots on as the annual Orange County Sheriff’s Posse Rodeo returns at 8 p.m., today and Saturday.

A variety of events, including bull riding, sheep riding, team roping, calf scramble, lamb scramble, calf dressing and steer wrestling will surely keep fans riveted to their seats as area youth and adults participate.

The rodeo grounds are located east of State Highway 62 on FM 105. Admission is $7 for adults and $4 for children ages 12 and younger.

Ford Park

The biggest music-oriented event of the weekend has to be the Pink Floyd Laserlight Spectacular this Saturday night at Ford Park in Beaumont.

A phenomenal light show, complete with 3-D glasses and effects, all set to the music of the legendary band Pink Floyd, will blow your mind.

Also appearing is the Led Zeppelin tribute band No Quarter, plus the Kiss tribute band, Destroyer. The gates open at 3 p.m. with the show starting at 4 p.m.

Central Mall in Port Arthur, H.E.B. on Dowlen Road in Beaumont and the Beaumont Civic Center Box Office, or charge by phone at 409-833-7747.

A $5 discount coupon is available at all area FastLane convenience stores and can only be redeemed at the Ford Park box office when purchasing a ticket.

Washer Board Tourney

The Bridge City Chamber of Commerce is holding its fourth annual Washer Board Tournament from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Saturday, at the Bridge City Community Center, located off Roundbunch.

Registration for the tourney is $15 per person or $25 per team. First place winners receive a set of washer boards, a trophy and a small cash prize.

The event is also being called the first Super Summer Social as area residents are invited to come and enjoy the fun as a classic car and bike is also being held, plus numerous kids activities such as a moonwalk and facepainting, plus great food and beverages will be available.

Cotton’s Cay

Put your dancing shoes on because variety music group Crossfire is performing tonight at Cotton’s Cay in north Orange.

Admission is $5 at the door for ages 18 and older.

Also, guests are welcome back on Saturday evening for a little karaoke fun.

Capistrano

It’s a double dose of country music this weekend as area band Centerfire makes its way back to the Capistrano in downtown Orange, while karaoke gets the weekend started early every Thursday night.

There’s never a cover charge and ages 21 and older are invited to enjoy the music.

Polo’s Lounge

Lone Star Karaoke is the featured attraction every Wednesday through Friday night, while the spotlight shifts to live music on Saturday.

This week’s featured band is area music act Three Legged Dawg.

Club 87

If you have never attended a Cheap Whiskey concert, then you have never really experienced what live country music should sound like.

The band is performing at 9 p.m. Saturday at Club 87 in Orange, and admission is just $5 at the door.

Ages 21 and older are always welcome, and also invited out to enjoy karaoke every Thursday evening. Call 409-746-2394 for details.

Bayou Club

If you like to dance or sing, then stop by the Bayou Club every Thursday, Friday and Saturday for digital entertainment from an Internet DJ and karaoke.

Every Sunday, a variety of musicians gather from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. for a little Cajun fun, while the public is invited to participate in the weekly APA pool tournament every Monday.

Eagles Lodge

The Fraternal Order of Eagles invite the public to attend its weekly karaoke session every Saturday night.

Bridge City KC Hall

The Knights of Columbus Hall on Roundbunch is the place to be for a dose of hardcore music.

The Orange County-based quintet known as Glory Glory is back for a showcase at this Bridge City meeting place, and they are sure to bring a few friends along for the ride.

The doors open at 7 p.m. and the show starts at 8 p.m. and admission is charged at the door for all ages.

The Vortex

After four years in business, The Vortex is still going strong and offering the biggest variety of area and regional acts in Southeast Texas.

Appearing tonight are the Big Money Makers, Outlaw, and Weswood Showcase, while Fuzion of Elements takes to the stage on Saturday.

Changing Times

It’s been a long time since area cover band Unspoken Truth last performed, but the band has finally made its way back to the Changing Times stage and are rocking out tonight.

If you like great metal from bands like Judas Priest, Dio, Iron Maiden, Pantera and Skid Row, then this is the band for you.

Area bands Losing Ground and Altar Ego will perform on Saturday.

Admission is $5 at the door each night and ages 18 and older are invited to attend.

Madison’s

It’s a country music kind of weekend at Madison’s in Beaumont as Cheap Whiskey, featuring Chris Johnson on vocals, performs tonight and regional act Brad Brinkley and Comfort Zone are scheduled for Saturday night.

Ages 18 and older are always welcome to check out the fun and good food, and admission is charged at the door.

Then, on Tuesday night, the rotating lineup of area musicians known as El Floppy Tacos performs some good time tunes on the patio.

Outlaw Drinkin’ Club

A special Saturday night showcase featuring area metal band Killjoy 72 will blow the roof off of the Outlaw Drinkin’ Club in Beaumont.

The Art Studio

Monthly band night is back this Saturday at The Art Studio in downtown Beaumont, and all ages are welcome to attend this diverse musical experience.

Scheduled to appear are the bands Obscene Orchestra, Nugs McSplendy And The Narcoleptics, Cousin Phelpy, the Crazy Ivans, and We Were Wolves.

Admission is $5 at the door and the show begins at 8 p.m. Guests will be treated to free hot dogs as well.

Suga’s

The Stephen Richard Band returns to Suga’s Deep South Cuisine and Jazz Bar at 8 p.m., Saturday.

Houston native, saxophonist and band leader Richard will amaze you with his soulful jazz sounds.

On Wednesday, poetry night returns as the doors open at 6:30 p.m. and the show begins at 8 p.m. Admission is $10 and includes a free buffet.

The Barking Dog

Beaumont newest all ages music outlet continues to provide some of the most diverse entertainment and this week is no different.

Tonight’s show features the Mia Kat Empire Records artist, Buxton, along with special guests The Wiggins and the Gonzo Sirens. Admission is $5.

On Saturday night, Austin-based musician Russell Clepper makes his first appearance at The Barking Dog, and joining him are Zauh and Tim Apshire. Admission is $5 at the door.

Kicking the weekend off early is arguably the best Christian rock band in region, The Red Airplanes.

The band makes its first appearance at this faith-based, family oriented establishment, so get there early because this show will surely sell out.

Dylan’s

The Top 40 sounds of Hoosier Daddy will make the dance floor at Dylan’s a popular spot to be tonight, while the sizzling guitar work of the Aaron Williams Band will leave you in awe as you watch and listen to this blues-based trio.

Larry’s French Market

Cajun music and cuisine rule at Larry’s French Market. Performing tonight is Jackie Caillier and Cajun Cousins, while Glen Jacquneaux and Cajun Friends appear Saturday night.

Texas Longhorn Club

The next round of the “Aces High” rodeo series continues tonight at the Texas Longhorn Entertainment Complex in Vinton, La.

Females ages 21 and older get in free, and admission is $7 for everyone else.

Saturday night is the second round of the Summer ’08 Bikini Challenge as contestants compete for the right to move on to the finals and win a $1,000 cash prize.

Females interested in competing must be at least age 18 or older, and there is no entry fee. The finals will be held on July 26.

American Legion

Mackenzie’s Pub

The Ed Dix Jazz Quintet will dazzle you with its sound starting at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, while country music from area musicians Britt Godwin and Bubba Moore is on the slate at 7 p.m., Thursday. Admission is $5 at the door.

Whiskey River

Two mid-week shows will surely help get you through until the weekend arrives.

On Wednesday, country musician James Otto performs on the Whiskey River stage, while Texas country musician Stoney LaRue is in Southeast Texas on Thursday.

Admission is not known for the Otto performance, but admission is $12 at the door for LaRue.

Orange VFW

Bingo fans should stop by the VFW Hall in Orange at 6:30 p.m. every Wednesday, or, if you prefer live music, check out the country and variety sounds of Crossfire from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. every Thursday.
