JASPER, Texas —
Spring is just about here and that means the return of a yearly tradition.
The Ninth Annual Jasper Air Show returns to Jasper’s Bell Field Airport on Saturday, March 16 and Sunday, March 17, for a full weekend of aerobatics featuring vintage aircraft and more. The air show starts at noon, Saturday, March 16, and at 1 p.m., Sunday, March 17. Admission is $15 for ages 13 and older, $5 for ages 4-12 and children ages 3 and younger are admitted free.
A highlight of this year’s event is Gene Soucy, who has been performing in air shows since 1968. This year Soucy is bringing his plane, “Showcat,” a Grumman bi-plane, to Jasper for some exhilarating aerobatics.
Adding to the excitement is Theresa Stokes, who is considered the top “wing-walker in the world” and will be walking the wings of aircraft during the two-day show.
Other aircraft scheduled to participate at the Ninth Annual Jasper Air Show include the James Bond Micro-Jet, pilot Skip Stewart in his custom-built Pitts S-2S “muscle bi-plane” known as “Prometheus,” and a several T-6 aircraft which will fly in tight formation and perform combat maneuvers.
Armbands are available at the gate, as well as in advance at KJAS radio, 765 Hemphill St. in Jasper. Ice chests, large bags, back packs, containers and pets are not allowed. Also, motorists will not be allowed to park along the highway near the airport this year to watch the show.
