A man, his music and an arsenal of guitars await this weekend.
American singer-songwriter, musician and member of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Lindsey Buckingham will perform in concert at 8 p.m., Sunday, Aug. 19, at the Lutcher Theater. Tickets are $35-$65 and available at the box office, by phone at 409-886-5535 or online at www.lutcher.org.
Buckingham, who will perform a special, one-man show Sunday night, is best known for his time as a member of Fleetwood Mac from 1975-19875 and again from 1997 to the present. Also, during this time, he has managed to release six solo albums and two live albums. This Sunday’s showcase will feature Buckingham performing solo with only his voice and an array of guitars to give the music life.
Throughout his 40 year music career as a member of British-American rock band Fleetwood Mac and a solo artist, Buckingham has been a part of some of the most notable songs in music history. He will be performing many of those and others at Sunday’s concert.
Below is a list of some of Buckingham’s best moments in music history.
1. Go Your Own Way
What’s the first song you think of when you think of Fleetwood Mac and Lindsey Buckingham? It has to be “Go Your On Way, which is from the 19-times multi-platinum album “Rumours,” released in February 1977. It’s rock ’n roll at its best with Buckingham’s amazing vocals and the song’s energetic chorus.
2. Don’t Stop
Although Christine McVie wrote and sang on this song, which is also featured on the “Rumours” album, Buckingham’s vocals shine as well and make this a must listen for any Fleetwood Mac and Buckingham fan. The chorus is infectious and fun.
3. Big Love
Originally considered for a Buckingham solo album, this song appeared on the 1987 Fleetwood Mac album “Tango in the Night,” which was the last record to feature the classic lineup. Great guitar-work and Buckingham's trademark vocals make this song a must for any fan.
4. Holiday Road
Buckingham may have had more popular solo hits with “Trouble” and “Go Insane,” but it’s a safe bet that many more people know this all too popular song courtesy of the Griswald family and their many vacations as “Holiday Road” has been the featured track for all three “Vacation” movies.
5. Tusk
A grand song featuring monstrous drum beats, which is no surprise since the University of Southern California Trojan Marching Band participated in the recording of the single in 1979. The song, which peaked at number eight on the Billboard singles chart, is the title track from 1979 double album and is a great scream-along at any event.
