Southeast Texas has seen its share of legendary concert performances, and more are on the way in 2013. Here’s a look back at some of the events between Jan. 24 through Jan. 30 over the years.
• Jan. 24, 1989 Heavy metal band Metallica brought the “Damaged Justice” tour to Southeast Texas for a concert at the Beaumont Civic Center in support of its multi-platinum album, “....And Justice for All,” featuring the popular songs “One,” “Harvester of Sorrow,” and “Blackened.” The opening act was Queensryche, which was touring in support of its critically acclaimed concept album, “Operation: MindCrime.”
• Jan. 24, 1977 Canadian progressive rock band Rush performed in Beaumont as the trio toured in support of its album, “2112,” which was released in April 1976. Opening the show were the groups Head East and Artful Dodger.
• Jan. 25, 1964 Country music icon Johnny Cash performed at a special March of Dimes event in Beaumont, Texas.
• Jan. 26, 2011 Country music legend Merle Haggard returned to Southeast Texas with a performance at Nutty Jerry’s in Winnie.
• Jan. 27, 2012 Bryan Adams brought his rescheduled “Bare Bones” acoustic tour to the Julie Rogers Theatre in Beaumont. This concert was originally scheduled during the previous fall.
• Jan. 28, 2006 Beaumont natives and siblings Johnny and Edgar Winter performed a rare concert together as the brothers performed at the Carl A. Parker Center at Lamar State College in Port Arthur.
• Jan. 29, 2010 Rising country music star Jason Aldean performed a sold out concert at Ford Arena in Beaumont in support of his April 2009 release, “Wide Open,” featuring the smash singles “Crazy Town,” “Big Green Tractor,” and “She’s Country.” Special guests included Luke Bryan and Ash Bowers.
