BEAUMONT —
The Symphony of Southeast Texas invites the community to come get their sway on at the highly anticipated Pops Concert “A Gospel Celebration” at 7:30 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 19 at the Julie Rogers Theatre in Beaumont.
For this spirit-filled concert, the Symphony of Southeast Texas (SOST) orchestra will be joined by the Antioch Missionary Baptist Church choir. Selections include: “Ride on, King Jesus,” “Amazing Grace,” “Hallelujah!” and more.
“We have chosen some wonderful gospel pieces and created an inspiring program, and we are very excited to be collaborating with Antioch for this concert,” said SOST Music Director Chelsea Tipton.
Maestro Tipton has directed gospel music concerts with several orchestras in other areas, and is finally bringing the concert style to Beaumont. He has been named the “gospel specialist” and an “ebullient expert in gospel music” by reviewers in Atlanta, where he has guest-conducted the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra in their gospel concert for several years.
“Capital One Bank is proud to once again sponsor the Symphony of Southeast Texas Pops Concert,” said Bill Darling, Beaumont Area President for Capital One Bank. “This concert brings people from across our community together for a night of great music, enriching the cultural life of Southeast Texas. Capital One Bank is committed to investing for good in the region, and our continued support of the Symphony and the Pops Concert is one of the many ways we live up to that promise.”
Tickets to “A Gospel Celebration” range from $15 to $36; senior, student and group discounts are available. To purchase tickets or get more information, go to www.sost.org or contact the Symphony office at 409-892-2257.
The Symphony of Southeast Texas celebrates “A Sparkling 60th Season of Symphonic Sounds” in 2012-2013. Since the inaugural performance of the Beaumont Symphony Orchestra on May 12, 1953, the organization has continued to uphold its mission of presenting educational, entertaining, and culturally enriching programs of the highest artistic quality to the Southeast Texas community.
