BUNA, Texas —
Spring is just around the corner and festival season has arrived.
The 41st annual Buna Redbud Festival, featuring the Wagner Carnival, a parade, food, arts and craft vendors, a car show and live, is back for three nights of fun.
The Wagner Carnival is open from 5 p.m. - 10 p.m., Thursday and Friday, and 11 a.m. - 11 p.m., Saturday for two sessions on the grounds of Buna High School, 1022 Old State Highway 62 in Buna. All-you-can-ride wristbands are available for $22 each day. Saturday sessions are from 11 a.m. - 5 p.m., and 5 p.m. - 11 p.m., and a separate wristband is required for each session.
Saturday is the actual festival and there will be lots of excitement.
The annual parade opens the festival at 10 a.m., Saturday. This year’s theme is “Redbud Around the World,” which promises to provide plenty of fun options for parade entrants.
“We wanted a wide-open theme so people can be as creative as they want,” explained Festival Chair Carolyn Dempsey in a press release. “You can do so much with this one. Just think about where you’ve always wanted to go.”
Live music is also part of the amusement and performances this year include Six Hits and a Miss, which will be performing on the main stage, and Section 51 from Lamar State College-Port Arthur, which will be performing under a pavilion at the front of the campus. Both groups will perform throughout the day.
Approximately 40 food vendors will be attending this year offering a variety of tasty food one might expect at a festival, such as Shrimp on a Stick, Bloomin’ Onions, boudain and more.
The King and Queen of this years Redbud Festival are District Judge Craig and Lori Mixson, who were crowned during the annual King’s Feast Celebration earlier this year. Kay Simmons was crowned Mrs. Buna 2013 during the same event.
Cruzin’ Buna’s Rod Run and Bike Show will return for the 2013 Redbud Festival, with the Buna Bridle Club bringing back their hugely popular Redbud Rodeo, the press release stated.
As always, the parade will kick off Saturday’s events down Highway 62, with the Miss Buna and Little Miss Fireman pageants completing the day’s activities.
The Red Beans and Rice Feast, which is held on Friday, will be hosted by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and is a great community event.
