BEAUMONT —
British musician has postponed his upcoming concert appearance in Southeast Texas for a second time.
English singer and lyricist Morrissey has announced the postponement of his concert this Saturday, Feb. 16, at the Jefferson Theatre in downtown Beaumont. This show was rescheduled after Morrissey announced the postponement of his fall 2012 tour, which included a Dec. 1 stop in Beaumont, after his mother was hospitalized due to an illness.
A statement was issued on the Morrissey Official Facebook page Friday with updated information on the singer’s health issues and the last postponements.
“As the doctor has ordered Morrissey to rest for two additional weeks, the upcoming Texas engagements in El Paso (Feb. 12), Austin (Feb. 13), Pharr (Feb. 15), Beaumont (Feb. 16) and Dallas (2/18) will need to be rescheduled,” the Facebook page stated. “Morrissey is currently undergoing treatment for a bleeding ulcer and Barrett’s esophagus. These shows are in the process of being rescheduled immediately and all patrons are encouraged to hold on to their tickets as the new dates will be announced shortly.”
The tour is set to resume on Thursday, Feb. 21 in Denver, Colo.
Morrissey, whose name is actually Steven Patrick Morrissey, is a well known English singer and lyricist whose career began in the 1970’s punk scene where he formed the alternative rock band The Smiths with guitarist Johnny Marr, in 1982. The band released its debut self-titled album in February 1984, which peaked and number two on the UK charts and remained on the charts for 33 weeks.
His solo career has been nothing short of stellar, as critics and fans alike declare him to be one of the greatest lyricists in the world. The BBC has even referred to him as “one of the most influential figures in the history of British pop” and “Rolling Stone” magazine named his as one of the greatest vocalists of all time in a recent poll.
