English rock singer Morrissey has postponed the remainder of his fall tour, including the Dec. 1 date in Beaumont, to be with his ailing mother.
It was officially announced this past Friday that the remaining dates on Morrissey’s fall tour were being postponed as the singer was returning to England to be with his mother, who has been hospitalized. Morrissey postponed a handful of dates the previous week and was set to resume touring on Oct. 29 before the announcement came.
“Morrissey would like to thank everyone for their understanding and patience as the shows are being prepared for a swift reschedule,” was posted on his fan website, True to You.
Morrissey’s fall tour was to include 33 tourdates across the U.S. and began Oct. 5 in Boston, Mass. The tour was to conclude on Saturday, Dec. 8 in Atlantic City, N.J. prior to Friday’s announcement.
Morrissey, whose name is actually Steven Patrick Morrissey, is a well known English singer and lyricist whose career began in the 1970’s punk scene where he formed the alternative rock band The Smiths with guitarist Johnny Marr, in 1982. The band released its debut self-titled album in February 1984, which peaked and number two on the UK charts and remained on the charts for 33 weeks.
His solo career has been nothing short of stellar, as critics and fans alike declare him to be one of the greatest lyricists in the world. The BBC has even referred to him as “one of the most influential figures in the history of British pop” and “Rolling Stone” magazine named his as one of the greatest vocalists of all time in a recent poll.
Morrissey’s last release, “Very Best of Morrissey,” was released in April 2011. It also includes a DVD featuring 11 remastered videos and rare live performances.
New tourdates are expected to be announced soon.
