BEAUMONT —
On Tuesday, Nov. 6, several talented, young musicians from Beaumont will have the unique opportunity to share the stage of the Julie Rogers Theatre and perform with their professional counterparts from the Symphony of Southeast Texas (SOST) in a special Side-by-Side Education Concert. Performances are at 9 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. The concert represents a tremendously fulfilling experience for the students as well as the Symphony members.
“It is a privilege for us to provide free, live orchestra performances for area youth,” said SOST Executive Director Craig Escamilla. “It is an even greater honor to provide an opportunity for many of our area’s young musicians to play on stage next to our orchestra members.”
This special event is organized by the SOST to reward those students who work hard to learn their instrument and show talent in their music. The students participating this year are from the West Brook High School band and orchestra.
In addition, over 1,500 students from other Southeast Texas schools will attend the two performances.
During the concert, Maestro Tipton will share some insight into how a professional orchestra runs and provide an added educational component for the performing students and audience.
The music performed by the students and Symphony members includes Custer’s “An American Symphony” (from Mr. Holland’s Opus) and Mussorgsky’s “Great Gate of Kiev” (from Pictures at an Exhibition).
The SOST constantly works to bring the joy of live classical music closer to the community – particularly to its young people. The Side-by-Side Educational Concerts are part of the SOST’s educational programs that strive to prove that the arts are a vital source of education, entertainment and enrichment.
