ORANGE —
For the second consecutive year, Mother Nature has forced the postponement of the Orange County Sheriff’s Posse Rodeo.
Becky Rhoden of the Orange County Sheriff’s Posse Rodeo said the board of directors has opted to postpone the event from Friday, July 20 and Saturday, July 21 until Aug. 24 - 25 because of the continuous rainfall received over the past two weeks. The rodeo was forced to reschedule to August in 2011 because of weather conditions.
“It was a tough decision to make, but the parking conditions were a big concern for us,” Rhoden said in a telephone interview. “We decided it was better to reschedule than have to two people out of the rodeo grounds because their car was stuck in mud.”
For several decades, the Orange County Sheriff’s Posse Rodeo has been a popular family-oriented and community-driven event featuring dozens of cowboys and cowgirls in various events, such as bull riding, junior bull riding, barrel racing, steer wrestling, team roping, breakaway and tie-down roping.
Rhoden and the rest of the Posse want to make sure the community is happy and enjoy a fun night of rodeo action when they attend the Orange County Sheriff’s Posse Rodeo.
“Our crowd is what makes the rodeo a success each year, and we want people to be happy,” she continued. “We’ve even spread rock around the grounds, but we just didn’t want to take a chance with the amount of rain we’ve been having.
“By rescheduling it to late August, it will hopefully be a lot drier,” she said. “Hopefully it won’t be too hot since the rodeo starts in the evening.”
