Mardi Gras Parade
The Krewe of Krewe’s Mardi Gras Parade will be held in downtown Orange on Saturday, Feb. 2. If you would like to participate and have a float in the parade, please call the Greater Orange Area Chamber of Commerce at 409-883-3536. Entry fee is $100. Application deadline is Jan. 23. Mandatory drivers meeting at 5:30 p.m., Jan. 29.
Chevron, Texaco and Unocal retirees to meet
The Chevron, Texaco and Unocal Retirees Association will meet Tuesday, Jan. 8, 2013 at Robert's Steak House, 3720 W. Park Ave. in Orange. All Chevron, Texaco and Unocal retirees, spouses and guests are invited to attend for a good “Dutch treat” meal, fellowship and a presentation by Paula Tacker, Orange County Extension Agent, on “Diabetes.” Information presented will be useful for those who have diabetes and those who have family members who have diabetes.

Trout release
The Orange County Parks Department announces the trout release at Claiborne West Park on Wednesday, Jan. 9, and Thursday Feb. 7. Approximately 500 trout will be released each day. Park hours are 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day. A fishing license and stamp are required. For more information call 409-745-2255.
Fundraiser
The American Legion Post 49, 108 Green Avenue, Orange, will hold a plat lunch fundraiser from 11 a.m. - 2 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 10. The Cost is $8. The meal will consist of brisket, link, potato salad, beans, bread and dessert. Walk-ins are welcome and delivery is available. Orders and deliveries will be taken between noon, Wed. GED Test Dates
Vidor ISD announces that GED tests are changing beginning in January 2014. Those who are currently working on the test process must complete it in 2013 or start the process over from the beginning. The 2013 test dates for GED at the AIM Center High School are Jan. 23 and Jan. 24, Feb. 20 and Feb. 21, and March 20 and March 21. Dates are subject to change, and more dates will be held each following month, so check with the testing centers at 951-8780. Examinees are expected to arrive on time. Testing begins promptly at 4:30 p.m. Doors will be locked at that time. Tutoring for the GED is also available in Vidor ISD. Call AIM Center High School for further information.
