ORANGE —
During this time of year we often hear, why do we celebrate Black History Month in the shortest month of the Year? Or should we celebrate Black History 365 days a year?
With those sentiments in mind the St. Paul C.M.E. Church, located at 1201 N. 4th St. in Orange, will kick-off Black History Month with a salute to Texas College and local alumni at 3:30 p.m., Sunday Jan. 27.
Texas College is supported by and affiliated with the Christian Methodist Episcopal Church. Texas College is an historic post-secondary institution located in the heart of the East Texas city of Tyler, which provides a unique college experience for the students it serves.
The College was founded in 1894 by a group of ministers of the Christian Methodist Episcopal (CME) Church who were interested in offering a quality education to African American youth. The Golden triangle holds fond memories for many who walked through the doors of Texas College.
Psalm 150, along with The Orange City Wide Choir, will be our musical guest. Rev. DeAndre’ K. Bell will be providing “food for our soul.”
