ORANGE —
The 2012 Toy Coffee benefit event was a record-breaker.
The Service League of Orange held its annual Toy Coffee event in the home of Frank and Sue Pritchard of Orange on Thursday and, despite cloudy skies and breezy conditions, the fundraising event was a big success as more toys were donated than any year previously.
“I think we did what we were supposed to do, and that was help local families for Christmas,” said Lisa Fournet of the Service League of Orange. “We received 660 toys, and that’s not bad at all. That’s more than ever before.”
Although the number of toys donated by guests was a record breaker, only 382 people braved Thursday’s dreary weather conditions to tour the home. A total of $4,208.83 was also collected in cash donations.
“We heard nothing but positive comments from all of the guests and how wonderful the house looked,” Fournet added. “We feel like it’s mission accomplished.”
The toys and money will be presented to the Salvation Army of Orange County to be included and used in its annual toy giveaway for registered families later this month.
