BRIDGE CITY —
It’s time once again for arguably the biggest and best holiday tradition in Orange County.
The 2012 Toy Coffee fundraiser will be held from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m., Thursday, Dec. 6, in the home of Frank and Sue Pritchard, which is located at 180 Greenhead Point, located off State Highway 62, in the Waterwood addition in Orange.
The event is held annually by the Service League of Orange, which was founded in 1954. The first Toy Coffee was held in 1956 and has been going strong ever since that time.
The yearly event offers the public the opportunity to tour a beautiful home which has been decorated for the season and allows area residents to see the house and assist in a worthy cause at the same time.
Admission for the event is a new, unwrapped toy or a monetary donation. All toys are provided to the Salvation Army in Orange to help the organization meet its goal of assisting families facing financial difficulties during the holiday season.
In the past three years, more than 1,200 people have attended and donated more than 1,100 toys and more than $13,000 in much needed funds. The Pritchards hope this year’s event is equally successful.
“I go to the Toy Coffee nearly every year,” said Sue Pritchard. “A lot of us would go and tour the home. We decided to offer our house this year because it’s a great event for a good cause.”
The Pritchards beautiful is spacious with tall ceilings and breath-taking views. Wood trim and furnishings only add to the attractiveness of the house, and the decorations are superb.
“We started decorating the house around the first weekend of November and finished it up in about two weeks,” Sue said.
With a laugh, Frank was to quick to add his assistance in the decorating process included a lot of “yes, mam,” and “right now, dear.”
Sue said decorating her home for the holidays is always a joyous process.
“It’s my favorite time of the year,” she stated.
The beautifully bright red Christmas tree in the front study is definitely an attention grabber, as is the dining the room. The living room area has the most decorations and features Sue’s favorite piece, which happens to be the manager scene with baby Jesus.
“That’s the reason for the season,” she explained when asked why it was her favorite.
Frank and Sue Pritchard, who have been married for 44 years, invite the public to attend to tour their wonderful home this Thursday and support the Service League of Orange, the Salvation Army, and, in the process, make a child’s Christmas one to remember.
