Relay for Life Team Captain meetings

The Orange County Relay for Life will begin holding monthly Team Captain meetings on Monday, Jan. 28. The Team Captain meetings will be held at the Lamar State College – Orange Wilson Building, Room 101. The Jan. 28 meeting will begin at 5:30 p.m. Additional team captain meetings are scheduled for: Feb. 25, March 25 and April 22. All Team Captain meetings are directed at planning for the Orange County Relay for Life, a fundraiser for the American Cancer Society, which will be held May 3 – 4, 2013 at Bridge City High School from 6:30 p.m. until 6:30 a.m. This year’s theme is “A Little Bit of Texas, A Whole Lot of Hope.” Individuals or teams interested in becoming involved with this event are invited to attend the meeting and register on-line at www.OrangeCountyRelay.org



AAUW Book Drive

The Orange Branch of the American Association of University Women (AAUW) is beginning its annual book drive to collect “gently used” books for their scholarship fund. All books, fiction, non-fiction, hardbound or paper back are acceptable. Books may be delivered to the Mann Insurance Agency at 1505 Park Ave. at 15th Street during regular business hours. The 18th Annual Community Trash Off will be held from 8 a.m. - 1 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 9. Participants will meet at Orange Lions Den Park. Senior Citizen Computer Classes

Lamar State College-Orange is offering free computer classes for senior citizens, ages 55 and older, from 9 a.m. - 11 a.m., Wednesday, Feb. 13, in the Wilson Building, Room 133, 506 Green Ave. in Orange. Course is designed for individuals who have never used a computer. Learn to turn on computer, navigate with a mouse, open programs, play games, surf the Internet, set up an e-mail account and send e-mail with attachments. Tip off for the Sixth Annual Glenn Pearson Basketball Alumni Tourney is 3:30 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 2, and all interested players should e-mail tony.knight@bridgecityisd.net ASAP to reserve a spot. The Bridge City Chamber of Commerce is holding its 3rd annual Mystery Dinner Threatre “Reading Aunt Louise’s Will", Friday, Feb. 15 and Saturday, Feb. 16. Crisis Preparation Expo

GED Test Dates

Vidor ISD announces that GED tests are changing beginning in January 2014. Those who are currently working on the test process must complete it in 2013 or start the process over from the beginning. The 2013 test dates for GED at the AIM Center High School are Feb. 20 and Feb. 21, and March 20 and March 21. Dates are subject to change, and more dates will be held each following month, so check with the testing centers at 951-8780. Examinees are expected to arrive on time. Testing begins promptly at 4:30 p.m. Doors will be locked at that time. Tutoring for the GED is also available in Vidor ISD. Call AIM Center High School for further information.
